GraphQL is a query language that provides a common interface between the client and server for retrieving and manipulating data. GraphQL facilitates and improves the retrieval of data from the server to the application, or modifies data on the server, using fewer resources than either REST API for example. In GraphQL, an important concept is strong typing where each data set has an appropriate data type that can be inherited. GraphQL is more flexible than REST API and allows you to construct a more precise query, thanks to which in one query one can obtain what in the older API would have to be split many times. More modern CMSs or libraries fully support this technology.
